Message from the Director General

The Policy Study and Research Institute has been reestablished in the newly formed Central Ethiopia Regional State in order to scrutinize the challenges encountered and provide solution options through conducting researches and studies on the implementation of various policy issues in the region. The institute is one of the regional institutes organized in accordance with Article 39 sub-article (1) of Proclamation No. 199/2015 issued to determine the powers and duties of the executive bodies of the Central Ethiopian Regional Council. Therefore, it is established to create better capacity and preparedness to conduct and coordinate research activities that suit the special characteristics of the institute. Moreover, it has the aim of attracting and retaining interested group of senior researchers to the institution. Thus, the relevance of its establishment is to create intellectual capacity that could give professional support and accelerate the overall development of the CER.

As per duties and responsibilities bestowed to it, the institute conducts policy studies and researches in the areas of economic, social, and democracy and good governance sectors. Besides, the Institute strives to bridge research and policy, provide capacity building training’s and consultancy services and undertake knowledge sharing and dissemination.

The Institute has started functioning with the view of becoming a preferred and reliable research institute that generates recommendations to design scientifically analyzed policy directions, and strategies that lead for providing fact-based information on the CER’s long-term plan to ensure development and good governance. Due effort is being exerted to substantiate the Institute with the necessary structure, system and resources that enable ensuring its purpose. However, there are many tasks to be done to achieve the institutional goals. Hence, the Institute endeavors to collaborate with higher institutions, research institutions and other stakeholders to achieve its goals in addition to utilizing the limited budget and resource allocated by the regional government.

Therefore, as the director general of the Institute, I would like to call upon governmental and nongovernmental organizations interested to work in collaboration with our Institute in policy study, research and training. I strongly believe that by working together we can contribute our part for the development of the CER region and the nation as well.
